Artist inspirationsMarc Quinn"Since many of the species would never grow together or bloom at the same time, Garden represents a fantastical, almost mythical landscape which also comments on the driving force of human desire, attempting to shape and control the natural world around us. "which Quinn had said about his pieces of his sculpting flowers. Which I thought was a great meaning which I agree with very much. The meaning behind his pieces inspired me to want to create a sculpture like his with almost the same meaning. The meaning just caught my intention but as well as his pieces itself, how there so plain and simple but with a strong meaning behind it. His piece helped me display my piece so nicely like his, having a vase with the flowers and having stand out with the colors from everything else.

Steps to making the roses:Step 1: Boil the jolly ranchers for about a couple minutes but leave them in their wrapper still.
Step 2: After a couple minutes passed check that there ready to use. Step 3: when they are ready to use unwrap the jolly ranchers from their wrappers but only do them once at a time to do the next step because of their fast hardening. Step 4: after you take the jolly rancher off their wrapper press on the jolly rancher to make a nice pedal thin shape. Step 5: The last step to making is after pressing on the jolly rancher you then stick the rancher as fast as you can onto the stick so that it doesn't harden to much for it to be able to stick on correctly to the stick. Then when done putting all the pedals needed and as well as the leaf pedal, you can then enjoy the nice flower shaped jolly rancher. |
Linda Lighton"I have heard that fairies send their best sentiments to mankind in the form of flowers.
These works are not about angst, anxiety, resistance, or strife; they are about the gentle spiral of life unfurling. These flowers are about the fecundity of life, growth, birth, maturity, opportunity and hope, chance, the dance of life, and regeneration. I hope these works will not be just a visual experience, but a thoughtful and emotional experience as well." quotes Linda, which again to me the meaning behind her pieces are very strong as well as catching my attention. But not only was I inspired by her meaning but the design and technique that she has in her flower sculptures. There so elegant and very detailed which made me adore her pieces. As well as making me do some sort of clean work on making the pedals in my piece even though its tricky to be using melted jolly ranchers. Linda Lighton Ceramic Flower Sculpture, Part One. (n.d.). ProcessThe very first thing that I did with this project is search up a video that shows step by step to making the jolly ranchers into roses( the video is down below). Secondly, I sketched out some ideas of how how it will turn out to be looking as, as well as where I would put the flowers into. Which I decided to put them in a beer bottle but putting the roses in a order where all of the flowers can show and pop out. Then lastly after making the roses onto the sticks I put them together with the vase and started aligning everything together.

Meaning behind the pieceThe reason why this piece is called bloom is because in general in order to succeed in life you need to bloom like a flower. It's as if you need to step out of your comfort zone so that you can do things that will help you later on with life. For example, I myself am a shy girl when it comes to asking or doing things but when I really have to I will step out of my comfort zone to do something that I need in order to do good. Blooming is a good thing for many others because it helps them know that they are doing what they have to in order to succeed and be happy about themselves. In this piece the flowers are supposed to represent the blooming idea since flowers bloom of course every so often. While the glass bottle represents the put into place par that people bloom out of. So it's like the bottle represented how the person who all put together are held in one spot like vases do with flowers. But then the flowers are opening out of the vase to represent the getting out of their comfort zone, or as in this point, blooming.

ReflectionThis piece was a struggling piece to make overall. Having to make a sculpture like this for the very first time was very hard, which had me struggling throughout the whole piece. I mean for it being my very first time to make this piece I have to admit I did a pretty good job. They actually turned out into looking like roses after all. But of course I had to look at some videos to see how to do the steps into making the piece, which was very helpful of course. The one thing I struggled with throughout this piece was Getting the jolly ranchers to stick onto the stick really fast since it gets hard really fast. Another struggle was making sure that the jolly ranchers were soft enough to get it stretched out to making a pedal. But other than that everything else went smoothly. One thing I wish I could change is by making the pedals a bit thinner so that it can make more of a nice pedal-realistic look. Another change I would want to do next time is make sure that the rose itself slides down from the top of the stick to moving towards the lower part of the stick just as like it did with the blue rose. Other than that I admire my sculpture very much.
