Videos on painting techniques.
I had an idea of using painting techniques and water painting with a straw as the way of making cool and unique details on the plates. But the only thing was I didn't know how to do those designs. So I looked up videos of how to do so. Which came out to be very helpful and useful. But I did have some failures at first especially, when I just bought random paint at a store that wasn't very smart to do because when I tried doing the painting with straw it failed completely. After awhile of experimenting these techniques a bit more I got the hang of them . I will only do these techniques only on some plates because on others I decided to do some other free hand designs on them as well.

Process
The first thing I had done first was sketching some ideas of how I can patterns with the plates as well as what designs can I put on the plates. I had also thought of some landscapes that I can be placing the plates too. Afterwards, I would test out one of the techniques (listed above) on one of the plates. I would then realize what successes and struggles that I had throughout this experimenting. Which will help me realize how I will need to go on with this process to making it successful.
Secondly, after experimenting with the painting techniques, I started doing the actual designing of the plates, as well as drawing in my other free hand drawings on my plates so that I can paint them in afterwards. Which is one of the hardest parts of this piece. I had to be very careful while doint those two paintings techniques, so that it wouldn't come out to being a mess.

Artist InspirationJudy ChicagoShe is my artist inspiration for this piece because once I saw her work with the plates I felt amused by the colors and patterns on the plates. While each plate in placed in a setting that best suits the "guests in honor" that she had. As well as the way she fit the patterns with surroundings on a table. But having each plate signify a prehistoric time. She had made the plates suite that time period by creating a design on the plate as a symbol. Also when I was analysing this piece as a whole, I thought of what type of pattern did these prehistoric years made a pattern? So I researched about her piece and found out that she had made the piece into a triangle to represent equality but as well as dividing her 3- sides into different sectional meaning. Which amused me knowing that she had put a lot of thought into putting this piece not only in one order or pattern but in multiple. But overall I wanted to use her idea of the different placement meanings and as well as having a significance towards the detail of her plates too.

ReflectionHonestly I dislike my piece very much, I feel as if I didn't procrastinate so much that I could have done so much better. Time management was the most struggle I had throughout this piece. I dislike how most designs came out to look like. They do not look elegant and nice. Maybe the patterns and the placement of the plates is what I really like about the piece but other than that I disliked. It was hard to come up with most of the things of the piece and as well as the meaning for it. Lastly, I know that I had planned to use glass china plates instead of paper but since I couldn't get the material I had to end up using paper plates. If I could change back to re-do this project I really would, especially with using glass china plates instead of paper plates. But I mean I had to do some kind of art piece, so what I have here is a procrastinated art piece.

Pattern Artist InspirationAndy GolthsworthyAndy is a sculptor and photographer who is directly engaged in his environment and incorporates natural specimens and found objects into semi-permanet sculptures. Then he extensively documents them into photographs. He was always aware of his surroundings as well, which led him to having appreciation of the quality of his landscapes. His patterns and placement of his found objects are what amused me about his pieces. How the patterns stand out from its surroundings. As well as using the found objects pattern as a symbol for its surroundings. Not only did I like his sculptors, but his photography method too. His photography method that he always used was to photograph his sites before, during, and after he has created his sculptors within the landscape. Which allowed to be permanet records of each of his pieces. The whole method and ideas he had inspired me to doing the same thing as well. The use of patterns that he uses with his objects are another thing that inspired me to do the same with my plates, having several different patterns to make with my plates.

* Taking the pictures from different views * Having ideas of placement Challenges I faced:* Finding the right materials
* Trying out the new techniques * The multiple designs I had to do for the plates * coming up with symbolic design ideas Meaning Behind the Piecesimply to me the meaning of this piece is to show different type of aspects of people. Such as the sayjng"showing their true colors". I wanted to convey that into an artpiece like this so. Each of my plates are designed to be organized in three different groups and so those thtee groups have a significance as well such as, natural, patterns, and lastly design. Where nature describes someone as calm and open minded. Patterns ae shown to signify the obstacles people face like some type of illusion where as the design describes what kind of persnonalities people have. These three groups combine to explain who and how the person is as a whole. So the main focus is on human traits.
