title: "aspectos differentes" (different aspects)

process:
For a class that I take this year we had done a project that dealt with referring and analyzing things about our specific culture and for this project. I was very interested into it and thought that it would be a good idea to make an art project based off of that culture project. So the main subject that I wanted to go more into depth was the different Mexican aspects such as what different types of Mexicans that are in the world based of their beliefs and appearance. Appearance is exactly what I wanted to be my main subject, showing different appearances of Mexicans, especially women. So then I came to a conclusion of wanting to draw the different appearances as in free sketch or using other visuals to help me create a sketch. But to start off I had to do the following steps: 1.) research 2.) jot down ideas 3.) practice some sketching of eyes and noses 4.) start drawing out the appearance I picked out.
My piece compared to the inspiration itself is that they both deal with the fact that it deals with race and identity and even cultures of a person. As well as what the specific race or ethnicity mean to us, as in how do we see or assume when seeing these kinds of people. Post modernism refers to culture and race based things as in its job it to help people visualize their assumptions of all the races and ethnicity's that there are around the world. But one thing that is different compared to post modernism and my piece is that in post modernism there is usually a symbol like piece that can represent the type of race or ethnicity chosen. Whereas in my piece, I incorporate different appearances of women as seen. I wanted to change it up even though symbols could be very artistic and more interesting, I just wanted to show the viewers the people of my culture.

experimentation:
For my experimentation, I had practiced sketching out different ways of drawing noses and eyes. I practiced sketching a couple so that I can improve on my skills and techniques and as well as finding out different ways of drawing eyes and noses for my sketched piece. There were only a few of the different ways to sketch them that I liked and practiced. I thought I had more trouble with the noses so I did more sketches for noses than for eyes.
Inspiration: Race and ethnicity in post modernism
Research:
* Postmodernism had a profound influence on the concepts of race and ethnicity in the United States in the mid-20th century.
* Post modernism tends to deal with culture, race, and traditions and usually focuses on the relative truths of each person
* In the postmodern understanding interpretation is everything; reality only comes into being through our interpretations of what the world means to us individually
*Postmodernism frequently serves as an ambiguous overarching term for skeptical interpretations of culture, literature, art, philosophy, economics, architecture, fiction, and literary criticism.
* A great deal of art during this era sought to deconstruct race through a postmodern lens
* Postmodernist approaches therefore often consider the ways in which social dynamics, such as power and hierarchy, affect human conceptualizations of the world to have important effects on the way knowledge is constructed and used
* Postmodernist thought often emphasizes constructivism, idealism, pluralism, relativism, and scepticism in its approaches to knowledge and understanding.

Cultural inspiration:
As for cultural Inspiration, I was inspired by my Mexican culture. I admire my culture very much and I enjoy expressing my culture in many different ways, For example through art. So even though I have done a piece based on Mexican culture, I thought it would be nice to create something that deals with that again but in a very different way. Which in this case happens to be by drawing and creating a visual of the appearances of Mexicans. But I also thought for this project I would use both my Mexican culture and post-modernism. So for this piece I had researched information based on post modernism and how it can lead to my plan of wanting to show my main idea using my culture. I had also gained some knowledge that I didn't even know about my culture as in how there are so many assumptions throughout the world about Mexicans and other races. As well as how assumptions just lead to stereotypes and even more false assumptions and opinions. Overall, these assumptions that I had read online that others had on Mexicans made me want to deal with showing what appearances happen to be thought about to others.
Reflection:
I honestly feel that I did a good choice by picking this topic because it's a topic that I feel strongly about as well as having a wanted to be involved of dealing with a topic like so. Its a topic that can go in depth in many ways and my way was a really good one, by fact a very interesting one that can be expressed very good. My piece has made me feel more involved my my culture as well, by learning more about my culture that I didn't even know about before. My drawings seem to be quite detailed for being my first time actually doing a piece based on different appearances and aspects. But one thing that I feel as I could have done better is learning how to deal with sizes on faces such as like the cheek bone area an chin, as well as practicing more with details for the hair on the women. Other than that I really enjoyed creating this piece and feeling more involved with the statistics and facts on my culture.
connecting to the ACT:
1.) The cause of my inspirations to my piece is that they both tie together very well. Such as post modernism and Mexican culture because post modernism deals with race and ethnicity which Mexican culture is. So one inspiration leads onto the other making it better to work with both. Which effects the process to be done easier as well as making the outcome.
2.)The overall approach for my topic and inspiration is that post- modernism deals with the fact that its another way of telling others how there are different kinds of races and identity's out there but by not using words, only visuals, art. Its the point of expressing these true identity's of others and not just relying on assumptions of the different races.
3.)I have discovered many things about my inspirations such as how there are many different ways to express facts, not only by communicating with people face to face by talking, but by visuals and so on. Another thing I had encountered with my research was that during this era sought to deconstruct race through a postmodern lens.
4.)My central idea of this piece was to incorporate different aspect of women in the Mexican culture. Dealing with how women are being categorized as Mexicans. The way people around the world make many assumptions based on opinion and not by facts and the background knowledge of that culture.
5.)Some inferences about my research was that to be able to express a way of showing a specific thing, you would have to know some background information on the topic than just jumping to assumptions. Which in my piece I'm against having assumptions towards things people may know but not exactly know. The research was successful because I did gain some knowledge about both inspirations that I didn't quite know about.
