In this piece Ashley focuses on theme "love".Where she decided to bring out a common saying,"You have the key to my heart".She thinks that this specific saying can be seen in many different ways,as in how others view it.Her thought of the saying is that it shows two different perspectives, the good and the bad of having the key of someone’s heart can be.She will be incorporating both clay and found objects together for this piece. Her inspiration to her piece is the story of pandora’s box and as well as the piece itself.

ProcessThe first thing I started to do for this piece was think of some ideas of what I could do. I thought of many things that were sacred to me. Love was the first idea that popped up to my head. Since to me love is very important because I'm a very loving and caring person. After I had picked out my theme I started sketching out how I wanted to express the theme; Love. After some ideas ways I finally found out one design I really liked, so I went along with it. My first step of making the design was to make my clay, but only making the amount of clay I think will be enough. Then, I wedged my clay for a good amount of time. Thirdly, I started making my design, which was making a human heart out of clay. But my other half of my design was making a box that will symbolize as the vessel holding in the heart. But the box will be designed as half scary and half loving, being inspired by the Pandora's box. Lastly, I would of course fire my clay and then glaze it with some of the colors found in the human heart and then after all that I would put everything together and make it neat.

Artist inspiration:My first inspiration for this piece was Pandora's box. I researched the story behind the Pandora's box and found out that the box was a wedding gift to Pandora(aka Athena) from Zeus but was promised not to open it. But sadly, she did and had encountered the horrific horrors ever . Which had gotten into her but then when she had opened the box completely the second time; she had found hope. Where she had a belief where hope will follow her and her husband. But I wasn't truly inspired by the story, I was inspired by the design of the box. I saw the amount of design it had on the outside box, only to hint the person of what is to be held inside. Which I wanted to do, Hint the person of what is to be expected when opening the box.
Behind the meaningThis piece overall is about how having the key to someone's heart can be either good or bad not really being only good. Some people assume that having someones heart is a good thing when actually it can be either or. Like to me the person who has they key to the person's heart can always take them over advantage. They can use them knowing that their significant other is already telling them that they keep a strong attachment with you and that they are your's. So many people out in the world take an advantage over their loved ones, it's a common thing that usually happens with couples, and relationships. So that's why I wanted to show this message to let everyone get the message of how it's not totally good that their loved ones have the key to their heart because you never know what the outcome can be from that.
Reflection:I myself enjoyed this piece very much. It was a nice experience for me on trying to sculpt a human heart figure out of clay. I mean it actually came out to looking like a real human heart which I really loved out of the whole piece. But it was very challenging into getting it to the right shape and having it detailed as so in the sketch that i made (shown above). As well as getting the little details as like the arteries and veins shapes onto the heart as well. But even though one of the veins broke off it still came out good after having it hot glued back on. On the other hand the box itself was pretty decent, but i could have added some more design to it than what I have now. Which that would be one thing that I would have changed differently in this piece. But other than that I admire my piece very much, even the meaning to the piece I admire very much as like to the idea as well. Overall the piece itself came out to be well and exactly how I wanted it to.
